Hey there! I’m Carmen, a registered dance movement therapist based on Yuin country, in the South Coast of NSW, with a background training in Psychology, Dance, and Creative Arts Therapy.

I believe that movement is our first language and dance is the truest most joyful expression of our primary self. It is also a powerful tool for processing painful experiences, and in the presence of a supportive therapist should be accessible to every body, in any way they can manage.

I grew up loving dance. I started in ballet flats at 3 years old, swapped them for jazz and taps shoes at 6 years old and settled into my vintage pumas when I found hip hop at age 16 - and I’ve never looked back!!

Although my training and professional work allowed me to express myself through movement, I craved more creativity, agency, and a healthy life balance. I also found the pressure and attitudes within the industry often neglectful of young dancers’ health and wellbeing. Thats when I decided to leave dance and return to study Psychology, hopeful I could integrate my belief that dance can help people flourish with the theoretical and clinical understanding of psychology and psychotherapy. This culminated in a Masters in Dance Movement Therapy.

Dance has accompanied me my whole life. It has helped me express myself in creative and thrilling ways; through stage performance, hip hop cyphers, and even corporate flash mobs. Dance has also helped me in the most challenging of times - processing the grief of loss or the challenges of changes and uncertainty. Each time I have found myself through the expression of my own movement and play.

And now I use my skills, training, and experience to support others to find meaningful ways to do the same.

Therapeutic Approach

Therapy is a collaborative work between you and I.

I work from a trauma-informed and culturally humble approach.  I support your autonomy in setting goals and boundaries, and working in an embodied way that is within your comfort.

I endeavour to sense and feel your world and your experience "as if" it were my own.

I use a mix of evidence-based approaches, and my training in creative arts therapies and psychology, to offer embodied and creative ways to address personal challenges.

In session I incorporate the use of dance and movement, breath, metaphor, props, music, talking, and art-making to work with you toward your therapy and healing goals.
